3G Eclipse Magnaflow Universal Mufflers

Magnaflow Universal Mufflers  
We recommend Magnaflow mufflers for the 3G Eclipse. Two different types are available. Outwardly they look the same. Inside the construction is different. With the Magnaflow mufflers, you get the look, quality and sound  of the current Japanese canister style mufflers, for 1/2 the price. Professional installation is required, check local install prices before buying one. Prices for installation will vary greatly, shop around. 

 Street Series:
Mirror polished stainless steel 6" diameter body with a 4" angle cut tip. There is a pipe inside the muffler that helps the sound resonate into the packing for a quiet sound. This muffler is only slightly louder than stock. If you want a nice look and more flow than the stock muffler, this is the one. If you want something more aggressive sounding, this wont cut it for you. On a 4 cylinder Eclipse it would be just right. On a V6, the sound is hardly noticeable as being louder. 

 Race Series:
Same outer look as the Street Series but with out the restriction of the inner pipe. This makes the inside of the muffler a straight through 2 1/4". The higher flow gives a deeper but not terribly loud sound. On a 4cyl Eclipse, it would be a bit raspy. We recommend it only for the V6.

Sound 
We did some sound recordings with a Sony DSC-P1 digital camera. This camera writes a small 150k .mpeg file with a single photo frame as the visual. We held the camera at about the level of the steering wheel. With each recording here, we used a V-6 with an Injen Cold Air Intake. Click on the link to open the movie file. If you are using Windows Media Player, you may get a quick 2 second sound clip. Let it play and then click on the same link a second time. It will fully play the second time once the file in in the cache. Again, click the link the second time, dont just push the Play utton a second time.

First run:
Stock muffler, Injen CAI. Done with the windows rolled up. Notice how prominent the intake noise is to begin with. 

Second run:
Stock muffler, Injen CAI, windows rolled down. As the speed increases, you can hear a lot of wind buffeting.

Third run:
With the Magnaflow Race Series muffler installed, Injen CAI. Windows rolled up. You can hear us with some light throttle, slow to a stop and idle, then accelerate through the gears (Sportronic) and let off.

Fourth run:
With the Magnaflow Race Series muffler installed, Injen CAI. Windows rolled down. Still, even with the louder muffler, the wind and intake noise is louder than the exhaust sound at higher RPM and speeds.

At start up and light throttle below 3,000 rpm, there is a definite burble and deep tone much more "domestic pony car" sounding. At no time is the exhaust note buzzy or raspy. There is some good base though. At over 3,000 rpm, it is fairly quite. The intake at that point is making more noise. 

Magnaflow Muffler Installation 
3gmagnaflow01.jpg (39685 bytes) Shown here is the Street Series muffler. Since this was a California with  two pre catalytic converters and a third main cat also, the sound was very quiet. The stock system also has a resonator (additional silencer) in it.
